She is the main character in the story because of her continuous commitment, willingness towards the injustice shown by the white people, and very little disobedience, which are strongly shown in the film. The character of Aibileen, is described as a person who quickly changes the plot through her choices and actions, is analyzed in detail in this review, we will not just remember this, but will also be deeply affect by it.
The character of Aibileen Clark in
"The Help" acts as an example for endurance and opposition, in
showing how prejudice in Mississippi existed during the 1980s among the white
people and black people. She is able to survive a hostile culture while also
gently facing the challenging environment in the house she works where
prejudices are established using her great bravery and depth of empathy. Aibileen
always say “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” towards the little baby
Mae Mobley. This shows her believe in freedom, empowerment and courage. Thus,
the movie shows how Aibileen's journey is a process that results in personal
freedom and the opening of new opportunities for both her and other people. The
most important lesson is that courage can create power, which in return brings
hope and light, while disobedience is not enough to effect change.
Aibileen is shown as a hardworking
black maid working in the home of Elizebeth, a white woman with a young
daughter named Mae Morley. She started working as a maid from the age of
fourteen and she raised seventeen white children throughout her career. Even though she
knows of the prejudice and dehumanization she experiences, Aibileen chooses to
continue her work, which is an expression of her strength, integrity, and
desire which she had till the end. Her work as a maid demonstrates her great
empathy, and she demonstrates motherhood by loving the children she raised
without fear even though the white people try to dehumanize her. Aibileen's
strength remains until the end of the film. She also expresses her personality
by bearing the pain of losing her only son and lamenting part of her life. On
the other hand, even though she is aware of the challenges she faces where her
humanity is never respected, she maintains her strength and remains determined.
As shown in movie, Aibileen's duty
goes beyond simply suppressing a black maid who lives alone. It goes beyond her
work and creates real connections. She decides to share her life and
experiences with Skeeter, a white journalist who works hard to expose the
challenges, shame and the actual hardships faced by African American maids.
Even though she refused to share them, she accepted Skeeter’s request because
of the actions of Hilly. This causes the story to take a significant turn. In
addition to changing the daily life of the black people, such courage inspires
other domestic workers to speak up, which starts a chain reaction that supports
the fight against racial injustice. Through her humble yet intentional
activities, Aibileen has become an inspiration for change. She forces everyone
around her to face their prejudices and challenge cultural standards. Everyone
she encounters, get benefits from her wise advice and kind treatment, including
Skeeter. Aibileen is a good example of the strength of humanity and the ability
to survive in the face of hardship because of her incredible powerful
influence. This not only significantly changes the lives of the individuals in
the story but also leaves a lasting impression in the audience.
Throughout the film, Aibileen faces the many troubles due
racial injustice. Even though she faces many systemic suppressions, Aibileen
refuses to remain silent, she raises her voice to speak out against the
injustices made by the society around her. Her inner strength and belief in the
power of change serve as a light of hope in the society full of darkness and
prejudice.
In the movie “The Help”, Aibileen
Clark stands out as a light of strength and wisdom, in showcasing the strength
of countless black women who underwent suppression in silence. Her story
portrays the awful effects of racial injustice. She also brings out the
significance of small but brave acts of opposition. The main character of
Aibileen's journey, which was initially characterized by silence and
subsequently became a main character which fought a for change, is a good
evidence of the transforming effect of bravery and the need to give voice to
those who have been silent for so long. In this way the film gives the audience
a way to examine the need of human dignity and the ongoing fight for equality
through the woman's role.
