Mississippi’s Unheard Voices in the movie "The Help"

Mississippi's Unheard Voices as Reflection on

The Friendship Between Minny and Celia in

"The Help".

"THE HELP" it is a fictional story, though it is based on real circumstances  faced by African American housekeepers that happened in the Mississippi one of the states in united states during the 1960s. However, the story was remarkably interesting, and it feels like a true story. Tate Taylor directed this movie, and it was released on 10th of August 2011. This movie conveys a deep massage about racial divides of white and Black people and focus on light up the struggles and challenges of those Nigro Maid, whose voices often went unheard. The main movie Characters of this film,

·         Aibileen Clark - Nigro Maid

·         Minny Jackson - Nigro Maid

·         Skeeter - White Journalist

·         Hilly Holbrook - White housewife

·         Celia Foote - White housewife

Throughout the story I realized an unexpected bond was created between Minny Jackson and Celia Foote, a white housewife who been socially ignored for some reason. In this blog, I will explore how their friendship started and highlights the themes of racial divides, respect, and reflecting the untold stories of Mississippi’s history.

Minny was the person who works as a housekeeper in Hilly's house but Hilly was the terribly angry lady and strict. As an example, there was a culture that every maid should use a different washroom if Black people use is they will not use it because of the interracial. Therefore, Hilly was supposed to mark her toilet paper using a marker to identify whether Minny had been using it or not. However, she was very cunning in this place as she against to this racism, to show this she was using a different toilet paper without Hilly knowing it. After some time, she got caught and then she stopped working in Hilly's place. She did not get any work after this situation. After a sometimes she got to work at Celia's place. Celia is different from Hilly, she was very friendly with Minny not thinking as negro. Celia cannot cook properly then Minny was helping in her cooking, and she impressed with her Pie.

In the movie there was a situation to Minny helped Celia. Celia was pregnant but had some trouble, leading to a incident of crisis where she experienced heavy bleeding at home. At that time Minny was not thinking about the racial and social divides and she stayed by Celia's side, "Minny, you don’t have to stay here. Just go home. I’ll be fine," Celia was not normal in this place. However, Minny saw the desperation in her eyes and kindly responded, "Miss Celia, you ain’t fine, and I ain’t leaving you like this." She realized that she in problem. helping her through the terrifying test. This incident created their bond strongly, through this Celia realized she could trust and depend on Minny not just as a maid, but as a friend. Minny’s sympathy and dedication showed how humanity could transcend racial barriers, emphasizing the themes of mutual respect and empathy. This is the place highlighted the deep struggles faced by women, irrespective of race, in navigating societal responsible and personal hardships.

In The Help, the friendship between Minny Jackson and Celia Foote clearly proved with the above mentioned incidents, how empathy and mutual respect can overcome has confirmed racial and social divides. The scene where Minny helps Celia during her miscarriage tells that humanity can rise above prejudice, as Celia comes to see Minny as more than a maid, but as a real friend. This moment reflects the larger theme of the film highlighting the struggles of African American maids in 1960s Mississippi and their untold stories of flexibility and dignity. Beyond the movie, this narrative mirrors ongoing real world challenges, reminding us of the importance of breaking down barriers and encouraging the understanding to build a more equality and caring world.
